Chemical Resistant Coatings protect equipment and structures from the harsh and punishing industrial chemicals that they are exposed to in operating environments. Without a protective coating, solvents, acids, alkalis and salts can be absorbed by the substrate and cause deterioration or contamination. Production machinery and hardware that functions in the presence of strong industrial chemicals require safe and consistent performance. Choosing the right chemical resistant coating will allow you to increase line efficiencies, reduce down time and stop product contamination.
PTFE Coatings
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is best known as the non stick coating, but it also has very high chemical resistance properties. This type of coating can withstand very high use temperatures and offers good resistance to different chemicals, including concentrated sulfuric, hydrochloric and phosphoric acid. It is suitable for concrete or metal surfaces and commonly used in secondary containment linings, acid plants, fertiliser plants and oil refineries.
ECTFE Coatings
Ethylene Trifluoroethylene has similar properties to PTFE, but is more resilient and offers higher impact strength. This type of coating can withstand temperatures up to 150 degC and is widely used in semiconductor, power, energy production and chemical processing industries. It is also highly regarded in applications where external environmental corrosion is of concern, and has excellent fire and smoke characteristics.
